“75 Labels” tells the story of a little Guatemalan boy who goes on a series of adventures. His parents die in a car crash and he moves from the country to the city to escape being sent to an orphanage. Through all the turmoil, the one constant is his collection of firecracker labels. His mother appears to him in a vision and tells him that if he collects 75 labels, he can be with her again.

This music was composed back in 1996 for an independent film. I studied a CD of authentic Guatemalan music to really get the flavor and feeling of it. The director brought back a flute and marimba from Guatemala which I used while composing this music. The film editor also gave me her Guatemalan accordion. I then created samples of these instruments which allowed me to play them from my keyboard, gaining better control. This music is quite different from what I normally do and it is something I always wanted to release. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.
